Frederick National Laboratory Cancer Researcher Dr. Simon Messing
Simon Messing, PhD, has served as scientist III at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research in Maryland as part of the organization’s Ras Initiative since 2021, preceded by nearly six years as scientist II. Dr. Simon Messing helps to develop drug screening and protein purification protocols, helps manage the protein production group, and designs/engineer successful protein constructs, in addition to serving as a member of a team that collaborated with BridgeBio to help deliver multiple first-in-kind RAS cancer therapeutics that are now in clinical trials.
Before joining the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research, Simon Messing spent time as a National Institutes of Health (NIH) research fellow in the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disease Laboratory for Molecular Biology. He previously spent five years with NIH as a Nancy Nossal Postdoctoral Fellow. He also has experience as a medical products consultant for Almased.
Dr. Simon Messing earned his doctorate from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. His studies emphasized everything from microbiology to structural biology. After earning his degree, he completed a short postdoctoral fellowship with the Department of Biophysics and Biophysical Chemistry. Apart from his work as a medical researcher, he is an avid gardener who works with Shepherd Elementary School and the Shepherd Park Weed Warriors.
